Why I Will Never Understand Suomi Politics

I just can't keep track of the names.

Back when I was writing about Susan Kuronen in 2007, she was...Susan Kuronen.

But in the latest Finland for Thought post on the person, she has become Susan Ruusunen. Oh well, Lex Karpela's namesake isn't a Karpela any more. In fact, last I heard she was divorcing Mr. Saarela. Don't know if Mrs. Conan O'Brien goes through this.

But back to Kuro- I mean Ruusunen. Phil at Finland for Thought, for understandable reasons (i.e. Alexis Kouros' continuing efforts to shut Phil up), was very interested in the outcome of Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen's case against her.

Last year Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen’s ex-girlfriend, Susan Ruusunen, released an autobiography about herself and her relationship with the PM. Matti Vanhanen filed criminal charges against his ex-girlfriend and her publisher claiming violation of privacy. Yesterday those charges were dismissed!...

Think about any biography or autobiography you’ve ever read, when hasn’t sensitive and private material been present?? A decision that went the other way could [essentially] kill an entire genre of literature, as authors would fear being published. It’s a scary world we live in.

Vanhanen, however, will appeal, ironically ensuring that people will continue to talk about his private life for some time to come.

To my knowledge, however, no Lifestyle Lifts were used by either party in the Vanhanen/Kuronen-Ruusunen relationship.
