I demand proportionate representation for NTN/Buzztime users in the climate change councils!

I don't know why the politically correct would bother to send unsolicited email to me. I received a doozy on Friday, much of the text of which can be found on this website.

AN INVITATION

For:
Parliamentarians, Decision-makers in National Governments;
Environment Organizations / Agencies;
Youth Leaders and Media Practitioners;
Funding / Donor Agencies / Organizations

The Third Global Congress of Women
in Politics and Governance

Focus on Gender in Climate Change and
Disaster Risk Reduction

October 19-22, 2008
Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City
Metro Manila, Philippines

Organized by the Center for Asia Pacific Women in Politics (CAPWIP) in partnership with the
United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN/ISDR)

Other than wondering why a white male, who can only be considered a "media practitioner" by a very liberal definition of the term, would get an invitation to this, I also have to wonder: what does gender have to do with climate change? Do women consume more carbon?

Ah, but then I read further:

Women are most vulnerable to the bad effects of climate change and yet women are absent in the decision-making process, the discourse and the debate on climate change, a global mainstream issue that is affecting the entire world.

Changing and influencing the course of climate change and preparedness thru disaster risk reduction are the two main strategies which women must understand and engage in.

There is an urgent need for political leaders and legislators to commit to creating a gender responsive enabling environment for responding to climate change and preparedness through disaster risk reduction at national and international levels.

Or, to put it another way, Al Gore is an oppressive fascist.

Of course, I'm sure that a thorough analysis by some Secretariat or another will discover other underrepresented classes in the climate change resolution process.

We must ensure that the pot-smoking Native American lesbian bartenders are fully represented.

Now this is the part of the post where I am supposed to decry the fact that WASPs are being left out again, and that any person of theistic tendencies would be persecuted by the Satan-worshipping atheists (heh) who dominate the Secretarists (as opposed to the Riva Ridges).

But I'm not concerned about that now. There are all sorts of people that need to be represented at these things, but who are the ones that we are forgetting?
  • NTN/Buzztime players (no, I'm not going to be obvious and link to that site - whoops, I just did)

  • Fans of the Mel Brooks TV series "When Things Were Rotten" (Misty Rowe!)

  • San Diego Clippers fan club members
I hope that these people are fully empowered to suck up loads of agency money, just like the usual suspects.
