Certified List of California Primary Candidates as of November 2007

Speaking of the California primary:

On November 29, 2007, California Secretary of State Debra Bowen (who is responsible for elections in the state) published a certified list of candidates to appear on our February 5, 2008 ballot.

Here are the names on the list, along with my smart-aleck comments in (parentheses). Note that Tancredo has already dropped out, and Biden and Dodd are in the process of dropping out. I don't know if the California ballot will be modified to exclude those names. (If the ballot stays the same, I wonder how many votes Tancredo will get.)

DEMOCRATIC:

Joe Biden
Hillary Clinton (hmm, no "Rodham" this time around)
Chris Dodd
John Edwards
Mike Gravel
Dennis Kucinich
Barack Obama
Bill Richardson

REPUBLICAN:

Sam Brownback
John H. Cox
Rudy Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
Duncan Hunter
Alan Keyes (I didn't even know he was running this time around)
John McCain
Ron Paul
Mitt Romney
Tom Tancredo
Fred Thompson

AMERICAN INDEPENDENT:

Don J. Grundman
Mad Max Riekse (will Mel Gibson be Riekse's Chuck Norris?)
Diane Beall Templin

GREEN:

Jared Ball
Elaine Brown
Jesse Johnson
Cynthia McKinney (huh?)
Kent Mesplay
Ralph Nader (with a Syracuse NY address)
Kat Swift

LIBERTARIAN:

John Finan
Barry Hess
Dave Hollist
Daniel Imperato
Bob Jackson
Michael P. Jingozian
Steve Kubby
Alden Link
Robert Milnes
George Phillies
Wayne A. Root
Christine Smith

PEACE AND FREEDOM:

Stewart A. Alexander
John Crockford
Stanley Hetz
Gloria E. La Riva
Cynthia McKinney (double huh?)
Brian Moore
Ralph Nader (with a Hood River OR address)

One comment after reading all of these names - the influence of Jimmy Carter is significant. Ever since Carter achieved massive success via use of the folksy name "Jimmy," it's interesting to note that the candidate list has a lot of names like Joe and Chris and Mike and Bill and Sam and Rudy and Tom and Fred and Don, not to mention "Mad Max."

So why don't we have Cindy McKinney on the Green/Peace and Freedom ballots?

Re: Nader and Syracuse...Green Party leftie Howie Hawkins address. He is pushing for Nader.
On McKinney, get a load of this,
A hoax, bogus conspiracy theory pushed by Ms. McKinney. The Carter Library website has a annotated deconstruction of the supposed doc from Brzezinski's NSC under Jimmy Carter.

Blasts from one's past - someone who refers to Walter Fauntroy (hadn't heard that name in years) and who uses the alias "Menshevik" (i.e. opponents to the Bolsheviks).

Ron Paul doesn't get that kind of passionate reaction. :)
