Leaving Mud and Used Condoms on the Dalai Lama's Doorstep

OK, there was some sense to having Woodstock out at the farm, or the US Festival at Devore. But this concert is, in the words of John Denver, a little too "far out":

Apparently a U.S. based anti-cancer group believes that there are people in the world who are not yet aware of cancer. However these very people can be finally informed of this terrible disease by holding a live concert in one of the most remote corners of the world with a collection of has been rock bands.

The Love Hope Strength Foundation said that they had staged the world’s highest rock concert on the icy slopes of Mount Everest featuring forgotten 80s bands The Alarm, Stray Cats, the Fixx and the Squeeze. The organization said that they had registered the even with the Guinness Book of World Records. However it is uncertain whether the record is for the highest concert on earth or perhaps the most futile exercise of all time.

But I did find one supporter, of sorts:

Perhaps this will help the Nepalese trekking industry too, which is again threatened by Maoist rebels.

But what happens if the Alarm approaches someone for donations and is told to take a hike?

They raised $250,000 for a Nepalese cancer hospital. What did you do last week, mrontemp, besides wallow in self-loathing?

So do you believe that this trek would have been less futile if it were undertaken by some of the more "popular" bands of today? More power to them if it were, though I question how many of today's pop stars would have the fitness that the participating band members have in their 50's. Rest assured, the participants have plenty of fans of their musical talent, philanthropy, AND fitness who have given a significant amount of money to a good cause.

As one of the organisers of the LHSF - I should be careful in what you say and obtain facts before you slander on a public forum.

It is a charity and perhaps if you have suffered or know someone who has suffered from cancer you might understand that you comment is completely foolish.
