Followup on the profusion

Yes, one other person noticed Google's profuse apology for the events of this morning.

Karl L. Gechlik begged to differ with the claim that the outage only lasted one hour:

If you check our post and log here you will see thet were down for a lot longer than an hour - and only now are we fully up and stable. What happened Google? Let us know.

Since I can't figure out how to get hourly stats with the new Google Analytics report, I can't confirm or deny Gechlik's claims.

We noticed the same thing after google updated their analytics - that is why we added Statcounter - a free transparent service. It gives us a really good breakdown of visitors by the second.

We contacted Google and they told us there were SOME sites that were down longer for unspecified reasons!

From the analytics blog:
Hourly Reporting
"Many of you listed hourly reporting as the most important feature missing in the new interface. We've put it back. Several of the reports now have a "View by: Daily/Hourly" switch that allows you to select whether you want to see your data by day or by hour. Andy Beal, our friends at Yelp, and thousands of others can rejoice in their hourly window to the world."
