He started his career at Chaffey Junior College in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The Pasadena, California native was a prep standout at Upland High School in Ontario, California.

Incidentally, I used to live near Upland High School (which, for the record, is in Upland, California). I got to hear bagpipes at 6:30 in the morning. Wunnerful.
