A quick note on definitions. I define an "insider" as someone elected to a Washington-based political office - usually, for Presidential purposes, a U.S. Senator. An "outsider" is defined as an elected governor who leaves the statehouse and heads toward Washington, usually to clean up the mess that the insiders have created.
Which brings us to the President who will follow George W. Bush. Now, if there's anything that I learned last year, I learned (from James chapter 4) that you can't be completely sure of anything. However, I'm pretty sure that the next President of the United States will be an insider. I am writing this the day before the Texas and Ohio primaries, and it appears pretty likely that the 44th President of the United States will be one of these people:
- Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator from New York.
- John McCain, U.S. Senator from Arizona.
- Barack Obama, U.S. Senator from Illinois.
- And, lest we forget - should the current President die or resign, he will be succeeded by Dick Cheney, former U.S. Congressman from Wyoming and an integral part of three Presidential administrations (Ford, Bush 41, and of course Bush 43).
Another thing to note is that President 44 will be the first "insider" President in 16 years. But let's move on to the current President, 43, and his interesting case of outsiderdom.
