When you raise a cry about a terrible assault and how it hasn't been covered, you shouldn't neglect to mention the name of the person who was assaulted.
I had to dig a bit to find the name of the assaulted man - Ed Snell.
From pennlive.com:
In 20 years of protesting at abortion clinics in central Pennsylvania, Ed Snell has had his share of confrontations.
People have screamed at him, spit in his face and knocked his cap off. About 10 years ago, Snell said, a man grabbed him by the throat and choked him outside a now-closed clinic in downtown Harrisburg.
In the past, he's brushed off the confrontations. But after a recent incident in which he cracked his head on the pavement and was hospitalized, Snell, 69, of Penbrook, said he's rethinking his approach.
Harrisburg police have accused a Perry County man of assaulting Snell during a confrontation on Dec. 22, while Snell was protesting in a parking lot adjacent to the Hillcrest Women's Medical Center in the 2700 block of North Front Street....
Police said Snell was standing on a platform attached to the roof of his car -- allowing him to see over an 8-foot-high fence the clinic erected -- when he began speaking to a man and woman entering the clinic around 7 a.m.
The man, Nathan Richardson, 23, of Port Royal, scaled the fence and pushed Snell off his car, causing him to hit his head on the pavement, police said. Snell was taken to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he was treated for head trauma before being released a few days later, police said.
When asked why Richardson was not arrested at the scene, Harrisburg Police Chief Charles Kellar said officers did not at first realize how serious Snell's injuries were. Officers had planned to charge Richardson with simple assault, a misdemeanor that is often handled through a mail summons.
After learning the extent of Snell's injuries, police charged Richardson with aggravated assault, a felony, along with reckless endangerment and simple assault, Kellar said. Richardson turned himself in at police headquarters and was released without bail on his promise to appear for court proceedings.
As can be predicted, some say that Snell deserved to have some sense knocked into him:
[T]he guy at the center of this article is one of the most extreme people on this issue. He not only has these disgusting fetus pictures on his lawn just down the street from a public high school and a Catholic high school, but he oftens drives around the Harrisburg area with the same filthy pictures on his vehicles. And he’s very vocal with no care about who might hear him. Antagonistic to the nth degree. There is a reason people scream at him. Snell has no respect for anyone or anything other than those stupid, disgusting pictures he totes around with him. Nothing ruins a good meal at a restaurant than having that moron pacing outside the window with his pictures.
Happy New Year, Ed. I hope Richardson knocked some sense and common decency into your head.
I've talked about fetus pictures before, which begs the question - will Australia and China join my employer in blocking this video? (Ironically, YouTube restricts viewing to those 18 and over, despite the fact that it discusses a surgical procedure on a 15 year old.)
And will Snell's church show the video? If so, to whom?

Let me start by saying what happened to Mr. Snell was unacceptable and should be punished. However, I think its about time people know just what kind of a person he really is. He and his socalled "street preachers" do everything but preach....unless your idea of preaching consists of videotaping patrons in an attempt to intimidate them while calling them sluts and whores. Mr. Snell is far from the martyre the so called liberal press makes him out to be.
"Mr.Ed" will milk this incident for everything he can. I fully expect to see him appear at the clinic in a wheelchair pushed by his loyal lackey entourage.
He is a verbal bully and has been a regular harasser for 25 years that i know of. That someone should finally attack him in return should surprise no one, least of all "Mr.Ed".
Very good comments. A few thoughts:
Snell believes that this is a life or death situation. If you were faced with a life or death situation, would you resort to extreme behavior?
How does one measure the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of an Ed Snell or a Holy Hubert Lindsey (sometime I'll write about Amitai Brodie's comments about Holy Hubert before Brodie's untimely death).
And what of Nathan Richardson, who some paint as a violent abortion proponent and others paint as a victim of a bully?
Oh yeah...what about the woman? And the baby?
The last part of your question is the key factor of this story. The decision to terminate a pregnancy is undoubtably the most difficult decission a women will ever have to make. This is not about being pro-life or pro-choice. Its about a women in crisis. Mr. Snell did not deserve to be beaten, just as the women do not deserve to be intimidated, threatened, and called every name in the book.
