Return of Von Wafer to the Ontario Emperor Blogging Empire

The silence was deafening. No Von Wafer news since October 2005. So what happened?.

Denver Signs Von Wafer

13th April, 2007 - 3:27 pm

Press Release -

The Denver Nuggets have signed Colorado 14ers guard Von Wafer for the remainder of the season, team Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien announced today....

Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers 39th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft, Wafer spent the 2005-06 season with the Lakers averaging 1.3 ppg in 16 games.

So Von Wafer has one thing in common with Shaquille O'Neal. Neither of them are Lakers any more.

But the Lakers aren't the only Los Angeles team that featured the talents of Von Wafer.

He was also called up...and signed to a 10-day contract by the L.A. Clippers on Feb. 21, 2007 where he played one minute in one game before being waived on Feb. 28.

I obviously have to do some more research into Von Wafer's illustrious Clippers career. Luckily, there are sites that assist in this, although they have this caveat.

Many stats are shown on a 'per 48 minute' basis

In this particular instance, this leads to some statistical anomalies. For example, the Clippers scored 117.6 points per 100 possessions when Wafer was on the court, and only 106.3 points when he wasn't. However, during his one minute of play, the Clippers scored 4 points and gave up 5.

I'm starting to think that this web page was started by a baseball fan.

Another tidbit. On this 48 minute basis, Von Wafer committed no fouls but drew 217. Unfortunately, his effective field goal percentage is 0.0%.

So what does the future hold?

The Nuggets have six players with contracts expiring at the end of the season, few of which are terribly significant to their long term plans....

Anthony Carter and Von Wafer both signed on for the remainder of this season, but neither will probably be brought back.

However, Von Wafer apparently made $100,000 as a Denver Nugget, so it's not a total loss.
