One man's folly is another man's self-fulfillment

Just ran across this statement from Vayl Oxford at the Department of Homeland Security.

Everyone wants to know how we’re doing on scanning their containers. I personally don’t think the threat is coming through this mechanism....

Giving up a nuclear device putting it in a container and letting it float around the world for a couple of weeks is probably folly. But it’s a great metric. Everybody loves to count containers.

Well, perhaps it's folly. But it's also folly to hijack a bunch of planes and fly them into buildings - and nothing stopped people from doing that a few years ago.

More importantly, it's folly to denigrate a potential terrorist avenue of attack when your own group is lobbying Congress for funds to protect against said avenue.

Oxie, you're doing a fine job.

P.S. How many of you noticed the extremely sexist title that I used for this post, which seems to imply that women are incapable of terrorist acts? You know I'll be raked over the coals for that one.

P.P.S. Speaking of women, a female co-worker and I spent part of the morning instructing another female co-worker on the fine art of being bitchy when a business situation calls for it. Hopefully we won't regret contributing to her education.
